If you are looking for a resort with the best “all round” transportation, the Polynesian Resort belongs on your list to consider. With both monorail and boat access to the Magic Kingdom, this resort is also walking distance to the TTC, Disney World’s transportation hub. As well, while many of the deluxe resorts gear themselves to convention business, the Polynesian Resort focuses on a relaxed, family vacation ‘in the South Seas’ ambiance. Other assets of this resort include:
  1. Minnie Menehune Character Breakfast and the evening ‘Ohana’s “all you can eat” Polynesian dinner.
  2. The Polynesian Luau Dinner show with two seatings nightly
  3. Beautiful grounds with lit torches in the evening and melodic Polynesian music piped throughout the gardens
  4. A short 10-minute stroll to the Grand Floridian Health Club
  5. Two pools, one themed and one ‘quiet’
  6. A beautiful atrium lobby

As one of the first resorts built at Disney World, this recently refurbished deluxe resort has some of the largest rooms. Rooms are grouped in buildings called Long Houses with a pleasant walkway from each Long House to the main lobby and restaurants. The theming is authentic and relaxing to the spirit; the bathrooms have a unique design from the other deluxe resorts in that the sinks are included in the bath area. The deep green marble tile in the bathrooms is exquisite. Some rooms have balconies; some do not. The rooms with a view of the Magic Kingdom are directly opposite the castle. Five people can sleep in a room if the fifth person is little. The Polynesian Resort hosts the Neverland Club for children when parents wish an adult evening.

CEO of my house on 8/17/2010 by Dani in Texas

So, we are driving back to Texas after 4 nights. After taking the monorail to visit the Grand Floridian and Contemporary, my family of 5 is so glad we picked the Polynesian! All staff, from front desk, clerks, to even the Chefs - everyone was friendly and happy to be there. The volcano pool was fabulous for the kids! The food was not 5 star quality, but generally worth the money. Ohanas was not the best place to take young kids for the cost, but the food was great. Jonas and captain Cooks are the way to go. The rooms were a little dark and not completely updated, however - still very clean and comfortable. We were disappointed that there was no local TV and extremely limited cable shows in the late evening for kids at the end of the day. Even me and my hunny like to rent the newest movies, but we were not able to. And finally, having the MK view of Cinderellas castle, nightly fireworks and lagoon light parade was WELL worth the money!!!! Also, having the monorail available so quickly was a luxury. Enjoy the memories. Cinderellas castle character breakfast sealed the deal for my little girl, and even her dad. Chef Mickeys was chaotic and not worth the money. The Contemporary Resort Needs some SERIOUS attention, it felt like we were at the airport when we went to Chef Mickeys. The carpet has to be original! Can't wait to go back!

Poly great for family on 4/11/2010 by Jake

I love this resort!  It's the best out of the 3 on the 7 seas lagoon. It's got a luau at night - beware of cold nights , it may get cancelled. Other than this, it's great.

LOVE THE POLY. on 4/19/2009 by Patty

OUR LAST STAY WAS IN JUNE 2OO8...AND I LOVED IT...THE ATMOSPHERE....THE BEACH....JUST MAKES MY DISNEY DREAMS COME TRUE....A LITTLE EXPENSIVE CONSIDERING YOU CAN STAY AT A MODERATE RESORT FOR MUCH LESS..BUT....THIS IS DISNEY SO GO FOR IT!!!  THIS IS MY CHOICE RESORT.  WHILE I RELAX ON THE BEACH MY HUSBAND AND 9 YR. OLD  CAN RIDE IN A MOUSE BOAT ON THE WATER WHILE MY 16 YR. OLD CAN LOUNGE IN OUR ROOM WITHIN A 2 MINUTE WALK  AND TALK TO HER FRIENDS ON THE WEB.  THE MONORAIL IS A MUST.....I LOVE THE EASY ACESS TO THE MK....THE TRAN. AND TICK. CENTER IS ONLY A FEW STEPS AWAY...AND EVEN IF IT WAS MORE YOUR WALK IS SO ENJOYABLE YOU DON'T EVEN NOTICE.....THE POLY. WILL ALWAYS HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART AS MY HUSBAND AND I SPENT OUR HONEYMOON THERE 23 YRS. AGO.  THIS WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE DISNEY RESORT.  I LOVE THE POLYNESIAN AND WILL ALWAYS TRY TO FIT THIS RESORT INTO OUR DISNEY BUDGET.

Refurb is a big improvement! on 4/15/2006 by Ser Alan

We recently visited the Polynesian after their latest refurbishment and I was impressed. They have really upgraded the furniture in the rooms, the closet space is simply delightful now!  Add to that high speed internet service and a great view of the fireworks from your room and youve got a winner!  The concierge area has also been remodelled, I rather like the new layout although I miss the Poly that we first got to know 10 years ago.  I didnt see any fruit sculptures like the old days but we did see a familiar face or two.  Overall Im giving the Poly a 4 because you really cant beat the location and the view.

In addition they have just completed a major remodel of the main building, making a very nice large shopping area right near the entrance (it used to be hidden in the back).  Ahnalira was especially pleased by the selection of Tommy Bahamas womens clothing there although I have to say the mens selection was rather weaker than in the  old days (used to be one of my favorite places to shop for mens clothing).

In summary: The refurb really did a lot for the rooms but you can still tell that this puppy was built back in the seventies (just dont look at those ceilings is my suggestion!) and thats why I dont give it a 5!  If you love the Magic Kingdom and the fireworks then be sure to get a room with a view and you can sit back and enjoy from the comfort of your own bedroom

Awful on 10/7/2004 by pjfunny

My family and I stayed at the Polynesian hotel for 2 nights. It was the most unpleasant stay I ever had at any hotel. It wasnt even worth $35.00 never mind $235.00. The room was the worst room we ever stayed in. It smelled of smoke and mildew. The carpet was wet and it was very noisey. The staff was in a very unpleasant mood and were not of any help with anything. We paid a lot for a stay there and it was not worth it at all.

Paradise Found! on 11/17/2003 by Babs

We just came back from a 10 day stay at the Polynesian and it was beyond our expectations. We were placed in the Tokelau building on the first floor. Even though it was a garden view room, if we took 5 steps off of our patio there it was. The staff was so friendly, always greeting us with an Aloha where ever we went. The grounds are absolutely stunning, but not so fancy that I felt funny strolling with my family in our swimsuits. We enjoyed being able to walk the beach everynight and take in the electric water pagent. On nights when we werent at Magic Kingdom we would walk out of our room and watch the breathtaking fireworks from there. Captain Cooks is open 24 hours, and the coffee was always fresh. We also enjoyed the convenience of using the monorail, however from our building it was so much quicker to walk to the TTC than to take the monorail there and since the grounds are so pretty you dont mind it at all. There are 2 pools, one has the volcano with the waterside. It also has out of this world Pina Coladas! I cant say enough good things about this resort. I can only hope we can afford to stay there the next time my family visits WDW. You would never know that this is one of their "older" hotels.

Update on Poly on 3/6/2003 by KK

We just got back from the Wilderness Lodge and the latest scoop on the Poly is that all moderate priced rooms are being refurbed so only the big $$$$$ rooms are available. One more thing - the Contemporarys main pool is closed for refurb - so many pool hoppers are in town!

The Polynesian: Big Kahuna, Little Price on 3/2/2003 by dznygrl

The Polynesian is absolutely wonderful: quite possibly the best resort in WDW. But dont be turned off by the price--I was able to snag a beautiful room in the Samoa longhouse (with a gorgeous view of the East Pool) for only $98 per night. Its all about persistence and timing!!

Polynesian on 3/13/2001 by Tara

Ok this is my idea, 1. the Poly is the place to stay, 2. it is already like $400 a nite so you might as well get the concierge level, the food bill alone makes up for the difference..........I stayed concierge level last year and will only do that from now on...it is so worth it!

Aloha Spirit! on 4/17/2000 by Charming

This place has it! The cast members are friendly and lighthearted. Just like it is supposed to be at WDW! I especially like being able to take the boat to and from the Magic Kingdom - about 10 minutes either way. It REALLY beats the crowded monorail at park closing.
